How is ore stockpile measured in practice?

Drone/UAV volumetric survey (most accurate), total station survey, or simple geometric measurement. Drone surveys can achieve ±1–2% accuracy on large stockpiles.

What is bulk density and how do I determine it?

Bulk density = mass per unit volume including voids between particles. Measured by filling a known-volume container and weighing. Varies with moisture, particle size and compaction. Use lab-measured value.

Why is moisture correction important?

Iron ore and coal are sold on dry-weight basis (or specified moisture basis). Excess moisture means you are effectively selling water at ore price. Moisture content directly reduces realisation.
