What is NPV levy for forest land diversion?
NPV (Net Present Value) compensates for loss of ecosystem services when forest is diverted for mining. Rates range from ₹5 lakh to ₹10+ lakh per hectare based on forest density. Paid to CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestation Fund).
What is Compensatory Afforestation?
For every hectare of forest diverted for mining, 2 hectares of non-forest land must be afforested (or 1 ha degraded forest restored). The cost is borne by the user agency (mine operator).
What environmental clearances are required for mining?
Above 5 ha: Environmental Clearance from MoEFCC / SEIAA. Forest diversion > 5 ha: FC from MoEFCC. Mines near wildlife sanctuaries / national parks need additional clearances. CTE and CTO from State Pollution Control Board required.
