What analytical methods are used for iron ore testing?
XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) for major element oxides (Fe, SiO2, Al2O3, P, S), ICP for trace elements, Leco for C/S content. ISO methods (ISO 2597 series) are standard for international trade.
How many samples are needed for quality control?
Open-cast mines: 1 sample per 500–1,000 MT for ROM ore, 1 per 2,000–5,000 MT for product. Exploration: 1 per 3–5 m of drill core or at specific geological intervals. Statistical sampling frequency should be per ISO 3085.
What is Third Party Sampling?
Independent sampling and testing by an accredited agency at the time of dispatch/receipt. Required for large export consignments and for dispute resolution. Cost is ₹5,000–₹20,000 per consignment.
