CBM & Volumetric Weight Calculator

Calculate cubic metres (CBM), volumetric (dimensional) weight and chargeable weight for a shipment from carton dimensions and quantity.

Result

MetricValue
Notes & assumptions: CBM = L×W×H (cm) ÷ 1,000,000 × cartons. Volumetric weight (kg) = L×W×H ÷ divisor × cartons. Chargeable weight = the greater of actual and volumetric weight.

FAQ

How is CBM calculated?

CBM per carton = length × width × height in cm ÷ 1,000,000. Multiply by the number of cartons for total CBM.

What is volumetric weight?

It converts a shipment’s volume into a weight using a divisor (5000 for air, 6000 for courier), so bulky-but-light cargo is priced fairly.

What is chargeable weight?

Carriers charge on the higher of actual and volumetric weight — that higher figure is the chargeable weight.
