FAQ

How is earned leave encashment calculated?

Leave encashment = number of leave days × (basic salary ÷ 26 working days). Government employees get more favourable terms under Section 10(10AA) with tax exemption up to ₹25 lakh.

What is the maximum earned leave that can be accumulated?

Most companies allow 30–60 days carry-forward. The Factories Act and Shops & Establishments Act prescribe minimums but employers can be more generous.

Is leave encashment taxable?

For private sector employees: fully taxable. For government employees: exempt up to ₹25 lakh under Section 10(10AA). Encashment at retirement is more favourably treated.
