FAQ

What components make up CTC?

CTC = Fixed pay (basic+allowances) + Variable pay (bonus) + Employer contributions (PF, gratuity, ESIC) + Benefits (insurance, food). Only fixed and variable components go in the payslip.

Is gratuity part of CTC?

Yes — gratuity is typically included in CTC at 4.81% of basic salary. It is paid after 5 years of continuous service at 15 days pay per year.

What is the minimum basic salary as % of CTC?

There is no statutory minimum percentage, but it should be at least 50% of gross or meet minimum wage. PF is calculated on basic, so many employers keep basic low — but this can create compliance risk.
