FAQ

What is the overloading penalty in India?

Under the Motor Vehicles Act amendment 2019, overloading fine is ₹20,000 for the first offence and ₹2,000 per extra tonne. Vehicles can be detained until excess load is removed.

What is GVW?

GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) is the maximum permissible total weight of a vehicle — including the vehicle itself, fuel, driver, passengers and cargo. Exceeding GVW is overloading.

How is payload calculated?

Payload = GVW − Kerb weight (tare weight + fuel + driver). Always check the RC book for the vehicle's registered GVW limit and tare weight.
