What is supply chain lead time?
Lead time is the total time from order placement to final delivery. It includes supplier lead time, production lead time, shipping and customs clearance. Reducing lead time improves cash flow and customer service.
What is safety stock?
Safety stock is buffer inventory held to cover demand variability and supply delays. Typical safety stock = 1–2 weeks of demand for most items; higher for critical or long-lead components.
How can I reduce supply chain lead time?
Source locally or regionally, qualify backup suppliers, use vendor-managed inventory (VMI), pre-position stock closer to customers, and implement demand forecasting to reduce production lead times.
