How is OPD capacity calculated?
Per room = (OPD hours × 60 ÷ average consultation minutes) × utilisation. Multiply by the number of rooms for total daily capacity.
Why apply a utilisation factor?
Real clinics lose time to gaps, documentation and no-shows, so 75–85% utilisation is more realistic than 100%.
How do I increase OPD capacity?
Add rooms or sessions, reduce average consultation time where clinically appropriate, or improve scheduling to cut idle time.
