How is bed occupancy rate calculated?
Occupancy % = (admissions × average length of stay) ÷ (beds × days in period) × 100.
What is a healthy occupancy rate?
Around 80–85% is often considered efficient; consistently above 90% can strain resources, while very low occupancy hurts viability.
What is ALOS?
Average Length of Stay is the mean number of days a patient stays admitted, a key driver of bed demand.
